History & Mission

NEUABILITY HAS BEEN PROVIDING SERVICES FOR TWO DECADES.

History

NeuAbility was founded in 2007, originally known as the Spinal Cord Recovery Project. Joe White and Dave Hart both saw the same gap: once formal rehabilitation ended, there was nowhere for people with spinal cord injuries to turn for an ongoing, adaptive movement-based program. That gap became the beginning of something meaningful.

In the early days, they offered mobile exercise sessions. As demand grew, they moved into a small facility in Boulder and eventually found a permanent home in Denver. Along the way, staff, interns, volunteers, clients, and supporters have all helped shape what NeuAbility is today.

Now operating out of a 5,000-square-foot adaptive wellness center, NeuAbility provides evidence-based exercise programming, integrative therapies, and a genuine community built around confidence, independence, and connection. More than a gym, it is a long-term resource for people navigating life after neurological injury or illness, helping them stay active and re-engage in the lives they want to live.

Approaching our 20th year, we are proud of the impact NeuAbility has had on individuals and the broader paralyzed community. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. If you would like to get involved or learn more, we would love to hear from you.
