Build Professional Skills. Gain Real-World Experience.
Join NeuAbility’s competitive internship program and gain real-world experience alongside our Adaptive Exercise Specialists and integrative health practitioners. Support people living with spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions as they build strength, confidence, and capacity for daily activities and personally meaningful goals.

Designed for students exploring careers in physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science, integrated physiology, medicine, clinical studies on neurological conditions, and related fields, this internship connects academic knowledge with hands-on learning and professional guidance. Interns contribute to individualized exercise sessions while learning how adaptive exercise, integrative health services, and community support lifelong wellness. We hope every intern leaves better prepared for their career and committed to advocating for the people and communities they serve.

Qualifications

  • Completing or holding a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, integrated physiology, or a related health field.

  • Foundational knowledge of anatomy, physiology, or kinesiology.

  • Understanding of safe lifting techniques and proper body mechanics. Current physical requirements include lifting 50–100 pounds.

  • Reliability, willingness to learn, and respect for each member’s abilities, preferences, and goals.

What You’ll Learn and Contribute

  • Gain practical experience alongside Adaptive Exercise Specialists and integrative health practitioners.

  • Learn how specialized equipment and exercise adaptations support individualized goals.

  • Develop communication and relationship-building skills through direct interaction with members.

  • Assist with transfers between wheelchairs and exercise equipment under staff direction.

  • Help prepare equipment and maintain a clean, organized exercise environment.

Program Details

  • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.

  • Insurance: Interns must have workers’ compensation coverage provided through their university. NeuAbility does not provide this coverage. Please consult your university advisor before applying.

  • Professional development: Interns receive evaluations and feedback. NeuAbility also provides letters of recommendation reflecting each intern’s contributions and growth. [Upon request]

  • Future opportunities: Interns who excel may be considered for full-time or part-time positions when openings are available.
